  1. Name of Guest — Delphine Glover
  2. Career — Cosmetologist
  3. How did your passions when you were a child prepare you for your career as an adult? — As a child she remembers always being “a creative.” When she was playing with her doll babies as a child she remembers doing their hair and clothing. She recalls her mother (Louise Johnson) was a Home Economics teacher that made sure she and her sisters learned skills such as sewing. Delphine remembers using the skill of sewing to make her own clothes from the time she was in seventh grade until later into her adulthood. She also reflected on using her creative gifting to be a writer. She concluded by saying that “When you are creative you’ll find different ways to create…It’s just in you, it’s your passion, it just becomes a part of you.”
  4. What do they love the most about their job? — She shared that she enjoys seeing the transformation of a person. When her clients leave her care, “they walk out feeling better as well as looking better.” She loves seeing the client’s transformation in more than one form.
  5. What is the biggest challenge in your career? — She communicated that, “You are not going to be able to make everyone happy or pleased.” However, she went on to expound that having the knowledge of the craft helps the process. Through competency and good communication skills a cosmetologist can relieve the stress in some of their disgruntled clients.
  6. Based on what you know now about your vocation, what advice would you give to yourself if you could go back to the first day of the job? — Delphine shared that a person should “grasp everything you can in this profession.” She elaborated by sharing that a new cosmetologist shouldn’t limit themselves by doing only one specialized area, rather they should learn many. She went on to communicate the wisdom of having multiple streams of income which can often come through following your various (vocationally oriented) passions. Lastly, she gave the advice of saving money along the way.
  7. One motivational quote — Let your passion be your motivation, because when it’s absent then it’s just a job.
